Nestled in the Green Mountains just off I-89, Waterbury is the heart of Central Vermont. As autumn rolls around, you’re in prime leaf-peeping country. Ride your bike along River Road or break out the canoes on Waterbury Reservoir to enjoy the unreal fall foliage. There are always ways to escape the crowds so you can take in the beautiful colors.

When the snow starts to fall, you’re just a half-hour away from some of the best East Coast ski resorts. On Saturday drive north to ride the gondola at Stowe Mountain Resort, and then on Sunday, turn south to ride at Sugarbush or Mad River Glen. If you’re after a mellow day on the hill, make your way down the road to Bolton for a great family experience, or enjoy the hundreds of miles of Nordic skiing trails in the area.

Whatever you do outside, don’t forget to stop downtown at Prohibition Pig, The Reservoir or Black Back Pub for a post-ride microbrew. If you’re after a fine-dining experience, make a reservation at the Hen of the Wood or Michael’s on the Hill to savor phenomenal locally grown cuisine.
